Freelance Jobs Website Review - IamFreelancer.com
Last week, we discussed about Freelance job in Malaysia, now, we going to talk more about where to find freelance jobs. Normally, freelancer jobs are posted at forums or freelance job sites. Let’s start our first review on Freelance Job Sites.
I spent 2 hours to google for "Freelance Job Sites", surprisingly, there are not many freelance job sites in Malaysia. One of the hottest site I found is IamFreelancer.com. They are pretty established and have many freelance jobs posted with them.
Apparently, the listed jobs are mostly IT-related jobs such as web design, web application development, and translation jobs. How about freelance jobs from other industry? Is it the freelance concept not mature for other industry? We will research on that in the coming post.
Anyway, cut it short. We are not going to review their jobs but their website. Here is our findings:
What I Like
Organized Job Categorizing- All the jobs are group by the skill/interest domains. For example, all IT jobs group under the same domain as Web Development/Web Design/Programming, Translation/Copy Writing, etc.- Free Resources - On top of freelance jobs, they also provide some tips and trick to become a successful freelancer. Resources provided as below:
- Free Software
- Free eBook
- Scam Alert
- Articles
What I Don’t Like
- Lag of job variety - Expand the site to other industry. E.g. Consultation service in Administration Support, Accounting& Finance, Legal, etc. Actually, the market needs the service from the professionals in these industries. What they need is just few hours of consultation which is consider a freelance job for these professionals.
- Useless Blog - the blog make no sense for me because all the content is the freelance job posted in the home page. I would consider this as duplicate content. May be they should follow AsiaPartTime to share tips and the community development in the blog.
What they should do
- Reduce number of advertisement - The average of advertisement per page is around 5. This is a bit over. As an user, I feel uncomfortable with a site with > 3 advertisements.
- Add More statistic - Statistics is playing a heavy weight to attract attention from the users. We love statistics and perhaps they should show:
- How many active projects
- How many freelancer had awarded a job
Conclusion
We would highly recommend this site to our community members who is interested to take on freelance job. Why? Very simple, because you have not many option in Malaysia. Perhaps, we should launch a new site which target on Freelance job instead of part time jobs. If we really doing that, will you support us? Give us your feedback on this idea……..

1. Salary Review - AsiaSalary.com
2. Company Review - Company.AsiaSalary.com
hi,
thanks for bringing up the topic about freelance job. I agree with you that freelance job market is not that mature in malaysia yet and only confine to IT related sector. I am a freelancer writing up accounts for small and medium companies and I do hope that in the near future ,I could easily find more accouting jobs which I could do from home. I strongly support AsiaPartTime intention to set up another site solely on freelance job.
Thanks for your support. Freelance accouting job is very limited in the market. Most of the time is going through connection/own network. Why not open up this channel for public? Then, the competition will heat up. It is benefit to the employer too. Same to freelancer.
I realize there is no channel for the employers to hire freelancer for their jobs. Do you agree that? The employer don’t know where to find freelancer? Impossible to hire through jobstreet?
Let’s wait for our new Freelance site soon……
